Excerpt from "Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development"

→ LASBOS introduces Hokkaido University's courses and makes the materials accessible to everyone. We are also gradually translating them from Japanese to English. Through the online educational materials, we are making people in least developed countries aware of the educational contents of Hokkaido University and supporting the people who are planning to study at Hokkaido University.

    • How does LASBOS contribute to SDGs Goal 4?

To ensure equal access to university education for all people in the world by 2030, it is essential to use online education systems. LASBOS is working to make the contents of university education available to the public online. People from all over the world (including, of course, people from all over Japan) will be able to learn from LASBOS online materials and learn more about Hokkaido University's education. Once they have decided to study at Hokkaido University, they can use various programs*. Since they have already studied online in advance, they will have less anxiety about their studies.

LASBOS contributes to SDGs by making university educational contents open to the public and providing a place for online learning. However, that is not enough. Hokkaido University is an institution of higher education that trains researchers. We also need to make sure that everyone has access to such institutions of higher education that trains researchers. Experiments and practical training are indispensable for the development of researchers. Online learning alone is simply not enough. We set a goal that all people should have the chance actually to study at Hokkaido University. It is difficult to achieve this goal with the current systems (scholarships and dormitories for international students) only, so we would like to expand the systems.

    • LASBOS introduces the contents of courses, such as a unit of one of the courses. If the following educational materials exist on their own, their contribution to SDG 4 will be small. If we can increase the number of such materials and build academic systems, LASBOS will be able to make a significant contribution. We would like to ask for your cooperation as well as that of Hokkaido University's teaching staff.
