A greeting from Ms. KITAMURA Moana, a first-year student in the Master's Course in Division of Marine Bioresource and Environmental Science, Graduate School of Fisheries Science, Hokkaido University, as a representative of the students.

Full text of the greeting

Hello everyone. I'm KITAMURA Moana, a first-year master's student.
Today is the first day of the long awaited Arctic cruise.
I am really happy to be here today.
I am sure that everyone who is about to board the Oshoro-Maru has a variety of thoughts and feelings about their participation.
I was attracted to the Faculty of Fisheries Sciences after an explanation of the practical training on the Oshoro-Maru at an open campus I attended when I was a second-year high school student.
Through my four years of undergraduate study, I remember changing from "I'm kind of interested in the ocean" to "I want to learn about and solve global warming."
To this end, I aim to be a person who can read and interpret data correctly, on my own.
Through this Arctic cruise, I expect that seeing with our eyes, moving our hands and feet, and experiencing field observations will give us new perspectives on how to look at data.
From now on, through two months of shared living with a total of 60 of you, we will spend a close time together, something that has not been possible for the past several years. I hope to share our thoughts and feelings with each other on the ship and create memories that will last a lifetime.
To the crew and teachers, I ask for your guidance in making this a safe cruise.
So, let's all have a great cruise! I'm off!
