In 2004 and 2005, joint research expedition between Japan and Indonesia was conducted in the deep waters (200-1,000m) of the Indian Ocean, off Sumatra and Java. As a result of the survey, approximately 450 species of fishes were collected and their specimens were deposited at the Hokkaido University Museum. Satyrichthys milleri (family Peristediidae) was included in those specimens. It became clear that many new species including three new species of armored searobins (family Peristediidae) were contained in those specimens.
