[Question] Why does the biomass of multicellular animals continue to decrease in depth?
Multicellular zooplankton feed on phytoplankton. Multicellular zooplankton belong to the higher order of all taxa presented here. In other words, the eat-eaten relationship is positioned at a higher level. Therefore, the rate of decrease of biomass with increasing depth is steeper than that of plants.
