Sedimentation of particles (summary)
The reason I am focusing on the size of the organic matter in my explanation is that it is important to have a solid concept of organic matter sedimentation and removal.
① If the gravity acting on the particles in the water overcomes the buoyancy force, the particles begin to sediment downward.
② If a particle moves in water, it adds a force of resistance proportional to its velocity. If gravity prevails over the upward force (buoyancy + resistance), the acceleration of the fall will continue and the resistance will increase.
③ At a certain point, if gravity and upward force (buoyancy + resistance) are balanced, the fall continues at a constant velocity (terminal velocity).
