    • Professor Seki retired from Hokkaido University in March, 2024.

    • The diatomaceous earth, ubiquitous clay mineral, suspension is placed in a beaker, a biodegradable flocculant or aggregating agent made from soy protein is added, and the beaker is stirred.
      When the stirring is stopped, the fine clay particles form flocs, and promptly settled.

    • Place the diatomaceous earth suspension in the beakers and stir.
      Add biodegradable flocculant or aggregating agent to the left beaker only.



    • Blue-green algae and magnetic iron fine powder are placed in a beaker and stirred well, and then a solution of flocculant is added under stirring. The blue-green algae and magnetic iron will flocculate together. (Co-flocculation)
      The flocs are collected on a neodymium magnet.
