A cylindrical ice corer is used to sample sea ice. An electric motor is connected to the ice corer, and the ice corer is rotated to make a hole in the sea ice. The scientists wear cleanroom suits over their cold weather gear so that the samples
do not get contaminated (they might look odd but there is nothing suspicious going on!). Ice coring makes it possible to collect core-shaped samples of sea ice. After melting, various components are analyzed.
