Observation to collect marine sediments in Funka Bay, Hokkaido
This section introduces the process of collecting
mud (sediment) from the seafloor during oceanographic observations in Funka Bay,
Hokkaido.
This is what the seafloor of Funka Bay
looks like.
Set up the Ashura-type sediment core sampler and make observations
On the way to the observation site (Funka
Bay Station No. 30), a bottom sampler is set up. Mud (sediment) from the
seafloor is collected, and the mud sampling tube is removed.
Divide a columnar sample (core sample) of the sediment
The water directly above the sediment is
collected.
A columnar (core) sample of the sediment is
cut by 1 cm thick from the surface.
