  • Introduction of Mass Spectrometer in the School of Fisheries Sciences


    • MALDI-TOF MS

      The only instrument capable of matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) ionization in the School of Fisheries Sciences. It is capable of measuring high molecular weight proteins with very soft ionization. Sample introduction is done by application to the target plate.


    • LC-ESI-Q-TOF MS

      One of the two liquid chromatograph-mass spectrometers in the School of Fisheries Sciences. The electrospray ionization (ESI) method is suitable for the analysis of small molecules with relatively high polarity. The separation of ions by time-of-flight (TOF) enables high-resolution measurements. The system is also equipped with a full range of applications from detection to analysis, enabling metabolomics analysis.


    • GC-EI-Q MS

      Mass spectrometer with gas chromatography connected to the sample introduction section. Electroimpact ionization (EI) is used to ionize volatile substances. The high energy ionization method yields a large number of fragments. The database is extensive, and the identification of substances is possible by comparing fragmentation patterns. Used for the analysis of lipids, fragrances, and volatile substances.


    • LC-ESI-Q ShimadzuLCMS8040

      A mass spectrometer with liquid chromatography installed in the sample introduction section. Normally, electrospray ionization (ESI) is used for ionization, which is suitable for the analysis of relatively high polarity compounds with molecular weights of 2000 or less. By attaching an attachment to the ionization section, the atmospheric pressure chemical ionization method can be used to ionize low-polarity substances such as hydrocarbons. The resolution is low, but the quantitation is high, making it suitable for quantitative analysis.
