"Resource survey of walleye pollock (Gadus chalcogrammus) on T/S Ushio-maru"
In winter, the largest spawning ground of
walleye pollock Japan Pacific Stock is formed in the mouth part of Funka Bay,
Hokkaido. Every December-March, Hokkaido University monitors the density of
walleye pollock eggs and larvae once every 2-3 weeks to investigate the factors
that cause fluctuations in abundance.
The survey data are shared with the Fisheries Research and Education Agency and the Hokkaido Research Organization Fisheries Research Department, and is used in the resource forecasting project. It is also used as a practical training for undergraduate students of fisheries and graduate students of the Faculty of Fisheries Sciences.
